Online Religion & Philosophy Textbooks

Students have been studying religion and philosophy for thousands of years. In many ways, they both ask more questions than they answer. Educators have been leading students to those questions and helping them to find their own answers for just as long.

A number of Religion and Philosophy scholars and educators are embracing the Open Textbook revolution and providing students around the world with free online access to the textbooks, lecture notes and other learning materials. I wish I had more textbooks to share with you but hopefully you will find something useful in the ones that I've already posted.

From what I've seen, Philip A. Pecorino, Ph.D. and Professor of Philosophy at Queensborough Community College has led the charge when it comes to offering online textbooks in this subject area and students should definitely check out his work and support his continually efforts in the pursuit of free textbooks.

I also hope that authors, students and life-long learners help me in my endeavors by making use of my contact us page to let me know of any textbooks that I might have overlooked and can share with others here on Online Degree Discussion.

This interactive web logic textbooks is written by J. David Velleman of NYU. It embraces web technology to provide an almost learn by doing approach to teaching the subject of logic. Most sections of the text also contain interactive exercises for even greater understanding of the material presented. Please note, the book is presented as a pop-up window once you visit the site. You might have to over-ride your security settings to view the textbook.

This site boasts over 6,000 articles and textbook chapters written by many of the world's top religious scholars. I did see a bit of what I'll call politicized and perhaps propaganda-like pieces, which just goes with the territory anymore, but overall this site has a great deal of useful information.
