Biochemistry is also referred to as biological chemistry. It studies chemical processes which occur in living organisms. Biochemistry students will learn about the structures and functions of cellular components – carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, proteins and other biomolecules. Many of the life sciences, including botany and medicine rely on biochemical research.
By it’s very nature, biochemistry is a field where the information is constantly changing. As new discoveries emerge and new technologies and techniques are implemented, textbooks become more and more obsolete. The Open Textbook concept enables authors to present living texts where they don’t have to wait for a publisher to make updates.
Hopefully, as the Online Degree Discussion free textbook lists grow I’ll find more biochemistry textbooks to add but for now, there’s just one. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it’s the one you need.
