Green Degree Programs - Owens Community College

Students have another choice when it comes to green degree programs. Owens Community College in Perrysburg, Ohio, is now offering a two-year associate degree program in alternative energy and sustainable systems. The program is designed to provide students with hands-on training in the areas of solar thermal power, wind power and photovoltaic (solar) power.

The associate degree program requires the completion of around sixty-five credit hours in topics including geothermal energy systems and biofuels, introduction to alternative energy, LEEDS (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified building, mechanical systems, photovoltaic power, power distribution, solar thermal power and wind power. Students are also required to complete the general studies requirements for degree completion.

Students will learn how to design alternative energy systems as well as install and maintain them. They will learn how energy is produced and study ways to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Students will receive hands-on training on the college's photovoltaic arrays, solar thermal panels and wind turbines.

Owens Community College has been educating students in Northwest Ohio since 1965. They offer 130 academic programs.

Owens offers a number of online degree programs. As of the spring 2011 semester, Owens is not offering their green degree program online but does offer online degree programs in the following fields:
