New Online Degree Information Site for Maine Students

The University of Maine System (UMS) has introduced a new website to make it easier for students to research the online and blended degree programs being offered at their seven campuses.

The Chief Academic Officers at the participating universities hope to increase the visibility of their online programs and provide students with a convenient place to explore all of the online degree programs being offered across Maine.

Online. Maine.edu was launched on April 4, 2011 and will make it quicker and easier to find degree programs. The degree programs cover a wide variety of specialties ranging from an RN-BSN in Nursing to Library Services and over 50 other degree programs.

The new website provides general overviews of which the programs being offered by each school and directly links to the individual degree programs.

Participating universities include:

  • The University of Maine
  • University of Maine at Augusta
  • University of Maine Farmingto
  • University of Maine at Fort Kent
  • University of Maine at Machias
  • University of Maine at Presque Isle
  • University of Southern Maine
Maine's commitment to providing more accessible learning opportunities to their residents is made evident by this new website and initiative. While many colleges and universities are limiting their online degree courses to blended courses where students receive classroom instruction (20-50%) supplemented by online activities, it is clear Maine is putting a far greater emphasis on making complete online degree programs together for its residents. On the day the website launched, of the over 50 online programs, only 5 were for blended degree programs.
